Baobab Bach
Baobab Bach works with communities to help reduce food waste and provide affordable food. They work with local organisations and volunteers to build and sustain community pantries with an aim to reduce food waste, provide quality, affordable food, and promote health and wellbeing. Baobab Bach has been developing two new growing projects in Bridgend at Ty Pen y Bont Day Care Centre and in Bronfair Allotments, Maesteg. These are to grow food for the local network of Community Pantries, also run by Baobab Bach to teach and support members of the community to ‘grow their own.’
Some of the equipment they had received through donations had worn out through constant use and needed replacing. There was also a need for additional equipment and garden furniture so that volunteers could work safely, socialise, and relax.
The team at Baobab Bach applied for capital grant funding from the Reach team, and once the application was approved Baobab Bach purchased the equipment and furniture. The equipment was quickly put to use by volunteers, who were able to begin preparing the growing areas ready for the planting season. The garden furniture enabled the group to open its doors to more volunteers due to the improved flexibility and accessibility, while also making the space comfortable and relaxing for their regular volunteers.
