Cornelly Community Council – Outdoor Gym
In February 2024, Cornelly Community Council applied to the Community Feasibility Fund to support a community consultation and explore potential options for Cornelly Community Park. The Community Council hoped to utilise the existing green space to provide facilities aimed at young adults and teenagers to relieve instances of antisocial behaviour within the park.
The objective of the exercise was to test the Community Council’s enhancement ideas for the park with local stakeholders, with particular interest in providing facilities for young people. Together with Cornelly Community Council, the Reach Team enlisted the specialist expertise of Land Use Consultants Ltd to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive approach:
• Collaborate with the project Steering Group to refine project aims
• Engage with stakeholders, residents and community
• Collect and analyse responses
• Design and present a sketch scheme to the Steering Group and community/wider stakeholders
• Deliver a feasibility report summarising the engagement and sketch proposals, outlining next steps
The consultation process gathered valuable input from residents and stakeholders, and the responses to the proposed installation of outdoor fitness equipment were positive.
In June 2025, Cornelly Community Council applied for a Resilient Communities Capital Grant to support the execution of the plans, and once the grant application was approved, the Council secured a contractor to carry out the work.
A launch event was held, where the outdoor gym was officially opened and fitness instructors demonstrated how to use the equipment. Since its opening, residents of all ages and abilities have made use of the equipment, providing valuable opportunities to develop the health and wellbeing of those within the local area.
