Brackla Community Council
Brackla Community Centre serves as a hub for the community and is accessed by a wide variety of groups, such as Brackla Choral Group, Brackla Seniors, sewing and craft groups, Youth Club, fitness groups and a local nursery.
In 2024, Brackla Community Council were involved in the Bridgend Energy Efficiency Project – funded by Resilient Communities – which supported community groups in achieving a step change in their energy consumption and putting themselves on a more sustainable footing for the future. The project involved energy efficiency assessments, and energy audit and a detailed action plan for the Community Centre. The report identified potential annual savings of over £5,000 over electricity and gas through energy efficiency improvements and renewable energy opportunities, and listed some of the actions the Community Council could take to help achieve these savings.
The condition survey of the glazing within the centre identified that windows were showing signs of deterioration, which is a contributing factor towards heat loss. In July 2025, the Council applied to the Resilient Communities team for a capital grant that would support the replacement of the glazing. This investment aimed to reduce heat loss, improve overall energy efficiency, and enhance comfort for the many groups who regularly use the space.
Thanks to the funding awarded, Brackla Community Centre was able to install new, energy‑efficient windows, significantly improving the building’s thermal performance and helping to put the centre on a more sustainable footing for the future.
