Community Connections
The Reach team previously refurbished Heol Y Cyw Community Hall to become a digital hub, which included high speed broadband, ICT infrastructure, a cinema screen and sound system. At the same time BCBC and Cwmpas installed similar digital hardware in several other community centres. The proposed idea of this project is to allow activity in one hall to be live-streamed to other halls across the Borough.
Reach and Cwmpas have undertaken considerable community engagement during the refurbishment projects and the community groups had expressed a need to be supported to organise activities and work together, which has resulted in this suggested pilot project.
As a local response to mitigate climate change, there is a need for services and activities to become more local and allow people access these through active travel. There are many vulnerable individuals that could benefit from closer-to-home activities, as opposed to centralised activities that require transport and time to engage.
The Reach team are supporting the project by providing a study across the five community halls of Heol y Cyw Community Hall, Cefn Cribwr, Richard Price Llangeinor, Will Trigg Centre Blaengarw and Coytrahen Community Centre. The study will include community consultation, engagement with community hall volunteer committees, design of an activity programme, production of a fully costed plan, a trial delivery of the activity programme and concluding with an extensive evaluation.
