Ogmore Washeries Options Appraisal

As part of the post coal mining reclamation of the Ogmore Valley, the remediated Ogmore Washeries site was gifted as a green space to Ogmore Valley Community Council. In 2013 a feasibility study was undertaken to maximise the community use of that site. Since then Bridgend County Borough Council have undertaken a Landscape Character Assessment and Nature Recovery Plan for the County. Both these plans have guidance on improving the Washeries landscape character and biodiversity.

Reach have funded an options appraisal to assess the best funding options to press forward with recommendations in previous plans and studies. Then take these options to the Ogmore Valley Community Council and consult widely in the local community on the preferred options.

In parallel to this we have submitted an application to the Welsh Government’s Nature on your Doorstep Fund. The application has been successful in securing £45,250 to develop the Ogmore Washeries as a new capital asset for nature. The options appraisal process will now consult with the Community Council and residents on how these funds will fit into wider development for the site.
