Porthcawl Veterans Hub

The Porthcawl Veterans hub are currently being supported by the Reach team and a specialist consultant to determine the possibility of buying or constructing a self-contained building for the group to operate from. This will enhance their services and community impact. The study will look to do a complete site search, assess services and review digital connectivity with a fully costed project report.

The Porthcawl Veterans Hub, established in 2019, has become increasingly popular among veterans, serving personnel, families of veterans, and the wider community. Unfortunately, their previous building, a porta cabin in Griffin Park, became unsafe, leaving members (including the Royal British Legion) without premises. The hub is currently operating in a shared building and faces challenges, such as lacking privacy for vital one-to-one support.

Operating only on Saturday mornings for two hours, Porthcawl Veterans group has experienced significant growth, increasing membership by 32% in the past year. The group used to offer private rooms for one-to-one sessions, addressing complex and multiple needs, signing veterans up for support and providing companionship. The group aims to combat loneliness and isolation, especially for those who have lost spouses.

The research undertaken and the detailed feasibility study will identify a suitable location for the group, as well as identifying capital funders to take the project forward.
